About two years ago exactly, we were in the hospital with Jace for his first (Norwood) surgery.
Jace was starting to heal and progress was being made. It seemed like he was having some brighter days, with less upsets or emergent situations. We were so thankful. It is so hard as a parent in that situation because we felt so helpless. There was nothing we could really do but to be there with him, hold him when we could, and pray.
I wrote this verse out for Jace while were were there in the hospital because it seemed so perfect. All Jace could do was be still and let the slow healing come- let the Lord fight for him.
In the passage of the Bible, the Israelites are running from the Egyptians and they run into an obstacle- the Red Sea. They are doubting the plan that God has for them. Why did God bring them here? They are fearful and want to DO something to change their circumstances.
Isn’t this so familiar to how we feel in uncertain and scary times? We doubt God’s plan or timing and we want to take the situation into our own hands.
Moses tells the fearful Israelites, “The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”
This image gave me extreme peace as I sat there with Jace for 23 days. I was helpless, there was nothing I could do but be still and pray. It’s so scary to give up control; To trust God with our kids, our future and our plans. There is also an in incomprehensible peace that comes when we give God control.
What would happen if we let God fight more of our battles?
